NGIGE CHARGES BOARDS OF PARASTATALS TO SHUN CORRUPTION – AFFIRMS FG COMMITMENT TO INCLUSIVE GOVERNANCE

The Honourable Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen. Chris Ngige has affirmed the commitment of President Muhammadu Buhari led administration to the provision of an all-inclusive governance for efficient service delivery.

The Minister stated this in Abuja while inaugurating the Boards of three parastatals under the Ministry: National Productivity Centre (NPC), National Directorate of Employment (NDE) and Michael Imoudu National Institutes for Labour Studies (MINILS).

According to him, “Today’s ceremony demonstrated Federal Government commitment to an all-inclusive governance as well as the provision of effective service delivery to the people.”

Speaking further, he re-echoed President Muhammadu Buhari’s zero tolerance for corruption and admonished Chairmen and members of the newly inaugurated Boards to shun all corrupt tendencies.

“It is pertinent to remind you at this juncture that this administration has zero tolerance for corruption. It will, therefore, be irregular and indeed unacceptable for you to ask your management to provide fringe benefits that you are not entitled to. Furthermore, your operations must be in strict conformity with Financial Regulations and the provisions of the Procurement Act.” He emphasized.

Expressing confidence on the ability of the Boards to justify the confidence reposed on them by the Federal Government Ngige said “you are coming on board at a very critical period in our nation’s history, I, therefore, enjoin you to bring your expertise and ingenuity to turn around the fortunes of our Parastatals. This is an important national assignment and indeed a clarion call to duty which you cannot afford to fail.” He concluded.

Earlier in His Remarks, the Chairman House of Representatives Committee for Labour Employment and Productivity, Hon. Ezenwa Onyeabuchi, tasked Chairmen and members of the boards to work hard and move their respective parastatals forward and ensure that right thing is done at all time. He expressed the assurance of the legislature’s partnership to ensure that due diligence is given to the board member in the cause of their oversight functions and responsibilities.

In his address, the Honourable Minister of State Prof. Stephen Ocheni represented by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Bolaji Adebiyi, said that the appointment of the Boards Chairmen and members must be seen as a call to which will require their wealth of experience to support the policies of the Federal Government in labour administration and creation of employment for the teeming unemployed youths

Speaking on behalf of the newly inaugurated boards members, the Chairman of the Board of the National Productivity Centre Eyo Nsa Ekpo, appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari for finding them worthy of appointment and pledged the resolve of members to discharge their responsibilities with the zeal and energy it requires in consonance with the extant laws of the land and in line with the Change mantra of the present administration.
