COVID-19: FG SPENDS N15.88B ON DOCTORS IN APRIL/MAY

The Ministry of Labour and Employment says contrary to media interpretation of some areas of the agreement reached between the Federal Government and the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) yesterday, the sum of N15.88 billion spent on Covid-19 hazard/inducement allowances to doctors and all health workers in the Federal Teaching Hospitals and Medical Centres was specifically for the month of April/ May 2020.

A statement by the Deputy Director, Press and Public Relations in the Ministry, Charles Akpan said this amount did not include the regular monthly salaries paid to the health workers while noting  that  June allowances were outstanding as the Federal Government was struggling with low revenue receipts.

The statement also stated that the sum of N9,248,970,292.97 has been spent on premium for Group Life Insurance for Federal Civil Servants except those in the revenue generating agencies like customs, FIRS, NNPC and all others. This exercise it said was being undertaken by thirteen insurance companies who already appointed underwriters and one hundred and seventy-three (173) insurance brokers. It added that of the thirteen insurance companies, six are dedicated to the Health Sector
